Paul Laurence Dunbar is generally considered the first African American poet to gain national prominence. He wrote poetry in both classical forms and with the use of dialect, and was widely admired by Americans during his day. This beautiful book is a collection of 8 poems, illustrated by his wife, Alice Morse, with photographs by the Hampton Institute Camera Club. It has gilded embossing on the cover and the page edges are gilded as well. It appears to be a first edition and is in great condition with the exception that the spine is slightly faded due to sun.
