Al Capone Does My Shirts, Teen Pick by Clare K.
Clare K. says:
I wasn't all that interested in historical fiction- before I read this book. Now, I love it! In the "Al Capone" books, Moose and his family move to Alcatraz island. Moose's father is a guard, and Moose's sister is autistic. It's not exactly easy to have an autistic sibling- especially living on Alcatraz. Moose gets roped in to many different adventures... adventures that are sure to keep you up reading until late into the night!

(And Tina says: I read the sequel, Al Capone Shines my Shoes, and it was also pretty awesome. Moose thinks about the "right" thing to do a lot -- is it right to do a favor for prisoner Al Capone, knowing he'll expect one in return? What if the favor could help your autistic sister? It's just a little favor, after all. Besides, the guards do favors for the prisoners. Favors that might get them in trouble if there's ever a prison break.... These books combine history, action, and humor, while making you think.)
